Pre-Health Clubs

Pre-Dental Student Org Volunteer EventThe University of Miami is home to over 300 registered student organizations including nine that are housed within the Office of Pre-Health Advising and Mentoring.

Actively participating in student organizations is highly recommended due to the wide array of activities that further enhance the undergraduate experience. The below organizations offer an array of opportunities for students interested in pursuring a career in healthcare.

  • Alpha Epsilon Delta

    Alpha Epsilon Delta is an international pre-health honor society founded at the University of Alabama in 1926. AED fosters a sense of community and altruism in our members through participation in volunteer work, events and activities related to healthcare.

    As the dominant and most respected pre-health organization at the University of Miami, Alpha Epsilon Delta- Florida Gamma Chapter strives to serve every member of the student body interested in a healthcare profession and enrich their undergraduate experience.

    We welcome a variety of academic backgrounds (medical, pharmacy, physical therapy, optometry, dentistry, physician assistant, chiropractic, veterinarian, nursing and public health). Alpha Epsilon Delta Florida Gamma Chapter is an organization that highly values its diverse and dedicated members. For this reason, each year’s e-board strives to fulfill the club’s general objectives, along with its own specific goals.

    At the University of Miami we offer opportunities to meet other pre-med students, participate in volunteer activities, attend insightful meetings, and take part in the physician shadowing program.

  • American Society of Pre-Dental Students

    The purpose of the American Society of Pre-Dental Students is to encourage excellence in pre-dental scholarship, educate and familiarize interested students with the dental profession, help prepare pre-dental students for entrance into dental schools, and promote dental health in the community.

  • Kappa Gamma Delta

    KGD LogoKappa Gamma Delta, a sorority dedicated to pre-health pursuits, aims to cultivate a diverse and supportive community of well-rounded college students. Our mission involves educating members on the application processes for various postgraduate schools, including those for medical, nursing, physician assistant, dental, and more.

    We achieve this by fostering the growth of leadership, communication skills, and maturity among our members. Additionally, we provide academic, social, and emotional support, emphasizing the importance of individuality, unity, and diversity. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of strong and well-prepared applicants for secondary education.

  • Medicine, Education, and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere (MEDLIFE)

    Our mission is to help families achieve greater freedom from the constraints of poverty, empowering them to live healthier lives. Our patients did not choose to be poor, but they have chosen to strive toward a better life; MEDLIFE stands beside them in this pursuit.

    We aim to achieve this goal through partnering with motivated individuals in poor communities working to improve their access to MEDs: Medicine, Education and community Development. MEDLIFE believes access to quality healthcare is a basic human right. To this end, we commit our time, resources, knowledge and hope to bring Medicine, Education and Development to Low Income Families Everywhere.

  • Minority Association of Pre-Health Students

    The Minority Association for Pre-Health Students club is an undergraduate organization the represents the interests of underrepresented minority pre-health students. 

    The goal of this organization is to provide support, encouragement, and opportunities for students in the health field in order to hold future positions in the healthcare field.  Although the name says minority, all are invited and encouraged to join.  We offer general body meetings, fundraising events, and plenty of volunteer opportunities.

  • Minority Women in Medicine

    Minority Women in Medicine is an encouraging and supportive pre-health organization that fosters the academic and social development of its members. This organization provides volunteer opportunities, connections with current physicians, academic guidance, and leadership experience to help minority women become excellent candidates for medical, dental, or pharmacy school.

  • Pre-Veterinary Society

    The Pre-Veterinary Society of the University of Miami is dedicated to supporting and assisting students who wish to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. We strive to provide students with information about the application process for entrance into veterinary schools as well as general knowledge of the field. Through volunteering with animal care-oriented organizations we also aim to provide students with the opportunity to gain both the small and large animal experience necessary for entrance into veterinary schools. Our organization seeks to increase awareness of the importance of animal care in our society and therefore encourages anyone interested in the overall well-being of animals to join.

    The purpose of 100 Strong is to cultivate a culture of belonging by the fostering academic, social, and professional development of students of color pursuing careers in healthcare. We aim to provide tutoring and peer mentoring, serve our local community through a series of projects, and engage in activities that will nurture and strengthen the professional and leadership development of our members whilst advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion in the healthcare field.
